Class 33, 33108, and Class 40, 40106, have been announced by the Severn Valley Railway this morning as joining in the action at the Spring Diesel Bash.
The 33 and 40 will be joining trains three and four respectively, with a Class 50 already confirmed as hauling train one.
The Spring Diesel Bash will take place between the 13th and 16th May 2021, and following restrictions, pubs at Kidderminster and Bridgnorth will offer outside service and their refreshment rooms will serve a selection of takeaway food and drinks.
Train two’s locomotive, as well as two visiting locomotives, will be announced by the Severn Valley Railway soon.
Also taking place at the event will be extra shuttle trains between Kidderminster and Bewdley which will be hauled by Class 14 and 17 locomotives, the latter is making its debut in BR Blue livery and is the sole surviving Clayton Type 1.
Due to the pandemic, passengers are not allowed to change trains and will be required to use their reserved seats all day.
Jonathan Dunster, chairman of the SVR Diesels Committee added, “We’re putting on a real feast of motive power, with an event that will feature Sulzers, English Electric and Diesel Hydraulics alongside the ever popular 50007 Hercules, 50035 Ark Royal and 50049 Defiance.
“The Spring Diesel Bash means our visitors will be able to clock up 96 miles on their choice of two classes of diesel engine, and if they add on the optional trips behind Class 14 and Class 17 locomotives they’ll push this to more than 100 miles.”
Helen Smith, the railway’s general manager, said: “We have worked hard to put together an event that not only protects our visitors but will also offer an unforgettable experience. We’re taking every care to ensure we can operate in a Covid-secure way, using tried and tested methods, including reserved seating, complimentary hand sanitiser and distancing measures on platforms. We know from passenger feedback in 2020 that our practises meant people could relax and enjoy their day, knowing that we were looking after their safety.”
