Over the Christmas break, workers at Network Rail were busy replacing two bridge decks on all four tracks at Selsdon Bridge near Croydon.
The work on the Brighton Mainline was completed during Christmas Day and Boxing day for the Fast line and the following 2 days on the slow line..
New track along with new sleepers and ballast were installed as part of the project.
COVID marshals were on site to help maintain a 2-metre distance between the workers.
The work on the bridge is part of a £750m investment in the railway in Sussex, including £238m on signalling and £169 on tracks and junctions.
Paul Adams, a Network Rail Construction Manager explains more in the video below.
Shaun King, route director, Sussex said: “The bridge lift at Selsdon Road went very well with the team working extremely hard over the weekend to complete the installation. We also thank local residents for their patience and cooperation while this activity was underway.”
“The new bridge delivers a stronger and more robust structure which better serves the community and the railway for many years to come.”

oof…
I guess not every bridge has enough strength to be kept.
Could of demolished the whole thing and rebuild the bridge so it makes it lot more nicer. But great work Network Rail.
