The Spa Valley Railway has confirmed that they have withdrawn RSH 7673 No.62 “Ugly” from service for overhaul.
The boiler certificate for the locomotive is set to expire in a couple of weeks, and the Coronavirus pandemic restrictions have prevented Ugly from running again.
Ugly was first steamed in October 2010 and has run for 10,000 miles.
With a similar tractive effort to a Black 5, the locomotive has become a favourite amongst the public and railwaymen.
The locomotive will now be placed on public view at the sheds at Tunbridge Wells whilst other projects are completed.
The good news is that a healthy overhaul fund is in place, so it is hoped that it won’t be too many years before Ugly is seen hauling trains once again.
