The Severn Valley Railway is preparing to resume trains once again from the 2nd Apri 2021.
In time for Easter, the railway will be opening to allow passengers to enjoy a steam train ride through Shropshire and Worcestershire.
Two events have been added to their special events calendar with the four-day Spring Steam Up starting 15th, with seven different locomotives, including a visiting locomotive and one of the last appearances of 6960 Raveningham Hall.
Moving to May 13th, diesel fans will enjoy the Spring Diesel Bash that will run for four days. An extensive timetable will mean a number of the diesel fleet will be in operation.
Following its success in 2020, the Severn Valley Railway will continue to operate its excursion trains, with two departures from Kidderminster and one from Bridgnorth on most days.
The Explorer, Flyer and Adventurer will be steam-hauled for a full day out, whilst the Pioneer service will run on selected dates for diesel fans.
For the first time since March, Hampton Loade and Arley will reopen to serve The Explorer excursion. This train departs Kidderminster to visit every station on the line. Teams at Arley and Hampton Loade have kept the stations in peak condition ready for passengers to return.
Passengers on The Explorer will be granted exclusive access to all stations, which will remain closed to the general public, like other stations on the heritage line.
Helen Smith, the railway’s general manager, said: “We’re really looking forward to our spring reopening and welcoming visitors back, in line with government restrictions. We’ve put a huge amount of effort into planning an itinerary of named trains and special events to start our 2021 season. We’re particularly pleased to be able to offer two large events for our enthusiast visitors, who we know are keen to get back to the railway. It is very important to the SVR to be able to offer these events, as a thank you to our loyal followers who have supported us throughout these trying times.”
“We’re taking every care to ensure we can operate in a COVID-secure way, using tried and tested methods, including private compartments, complimentary hand sanitiser and social distancing measures on platforms. We know from the feedback from passengers in 2020 that our practises meant they could relax and enjoy their day, certain that we were looking after their safety.”
Additionally, the SVR also has a COVID Guarantee, meaning passengers can transfer tickets if the railway cancels an event, Government restrictions change or someone in the party tests positive for COVID-19.
Tickets for trains in April, May and June, and the Spring Steam Up event, will go on sale from Friday 30th January 2021.
