Network Rail engineers will be working hard this weekend to complete another section of The Railway Upgrade Plan, to provide a more reliable railway for passengers.

Between and Brighton & Lewes, a replacement bus will be in operation for the people that need to travel this weekend Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th January 2021.

Additionally, between Brighton and London Victoria, Southern trains will be running on a diversionary route via Horsham.

The work being completed will include 600m of a new track from Haywards Heath to Copyhold Junction with another 800m between and Three Bridges, as well as an upgrade on the Station.

Work will be completed to the drainage on the line between and Lewes along with the platform repairs at Cooksbridge and also maintenance work between Wivelsfield and Brighton.

Shaun King, route director, Sussex said: “To keep trains running reliably, we have to continue with our Railway Upgrade Plan to replace worn-out track and other equipment. Hundreds of trains run on these tracks every day and by doing these works, we can continue to improve their reliability and improve the journeys of passengers.”

Angie Doll, Managing Director for Southern and Gatwick Express, said: “Please only travel if you need to. If you are travelling by rail, you can rest assured we are working hard behind the scenes to keep your trains and stations clean and safe. Allow extra time for your journey in case ‘s work affects your route this weekend, and always remember the golden rules: hands, face, space. Wash your hands before and after every trip, wear a face covering and keep your distance.”

  1. Selhurst Junction which is the bottleneck junction to the north of East Croydon station needs a huge redevelopment and upgrade. So that there will not be anymore hold ups, congestion and delays to Southern, Thameslink and Gatwick Express trains.
