Last month, rail operator LNER completed work at station, which has seen the building upgraded to benefit passengers and the local community.

The station now has a brighter entrance, with feature lighting that is also in keeping with the station’s heritage, LNER says.

Doncaster station is a Grade II listed building that dates back to 1938. The project has been completed with help from the Railway Heritage Trust.

The 1970 canopy has been replaced with a glazed canopy, which runs across the front of the station.

LNER says that they have invested £1.1m into the improvement project.

Claire Ansley, LNER Customer Experience Director, said: “Doncaster Station has played an important role in the region for decades and we value its rich history. That is why we have been extremely careful in making these improvements to ensure they enhance the customer experience whilst being respectful of the building’s heritage and architectural qualities.

“The transformation, specifically to the entrance concourse, is striking and we’re delighted to have received a positive reaction from all parts of the community who use the station.“

The project is part of the improvements being made at Doncaster. The stairs and subway are next to be refurbished.

  1. Nice work. Maybe Doncaster could do with having some extra platforms for trains operating the Leeds-Doncaster service and some of the stations on the Leeds-Doncaster line to have platforms extended to accommodate longer trains.

  2. It’s not good improvement.people can’t get station taxis and can’t see where taxis rank.the station taxis rank very far from the entrance and exit. The old and disabled people can’t walk to get taxi.they struggling.they can’t stand to wait for taxi.there are windy and rain, cold.
