Network Rail has announced that passengers at station in Hampshire will see better access to the station thanks to a new footbridge.

During the work, the station, on the Portsmouth Line that runs from Portsmouth Harbour to London Waterloo, will remain open for key workers.

When the work is done there will be a lift on each side going to the platforms to make it step-free access.

The bridge is now old and can not do its job any longer and means the steel structure needs changing. The work at Liphook will be completed by the end of August 2021.

There will be new CCTV and lighting installed around the footbridge.

With the work going on the team at Network Rail will be working with BTP and the SWR to keep passengers safe when they travel.

Andrew Magee, senior asset engineer for Network Rail Wessex, said: “I am very grateful to passengers for their patience whilst we carry out this essential work to the footbridge at Liphook station.

“While the new bridge is being built, the existing footbridge will remain open for passengers to use the station. Work is progressing well and when complete, the new bridge will better serve the people of the area for decades to come.”

Michael Adlington, and inclusion manager at South Western Railway, said: “We’re really pleased that Liphook will soon have step-free access to each platform. The new footbridge will provide a sheltered and safer route between platforms, with the new lifts providing step-free access to all customers who require it.

“We hope that our customers, and soon-to-be customers, will enjoy the benefits of this much needed addition to the station for years to come.”

  1. Wish that Greater Anglia would do the same with some of the stations including replacing old footbridges at Wickford, Rayleigh, Hockley, Rochford and Prittlewell stations to have new footbridge with lifts. So that it makes it lot easier to access all platforms.

And at Ingatestone, Hatfield Peveral, Marks Tey, Stowmarket and Diss on the Great Eastern Main Line. And some stations on West Anglia Main Line that aren’t step-free accessible so become step-free accessible.
