The 82045 Steam Locomotive Trust has released their final update of 2020 detailing some of the work that has taken place in the year.
Two lockdowns in 2020 meant work had to stop on the locomotive, and at other times, restrictions were in place to keep everyone safe.
This has meant that outdoor work on the pony truck has occupied workers for most of the working time, and the front pony truck has now been put onto its wheelset just before England’s second lockdown.
A small adjustment was needed, which meant lifting it off the wheelset for a short time; this will be completed in the new year.
The rear pony truck has had this adjustment so once it is fitted, it will stay fitted.
A number of lubrication pipe runs are progressively being made, and the steam supply to the brake cylinder is being looked at whilst access is easier with the rear pony truck out.
Cladding for the cylinder end cover and the steam chest end cover has been made, a time-consuming effort when it comes to the steam chests where a number of different pieces are needed to complete the job.
Work has also progressed on brackets for the sanding equipment, parts for the rocking grate and support brackets for the master mechanics spark arresting screens in the smokebox.
Finally, work has progressed on the firebox, with lots of marking out and preparatory work on a number of sections, so it will be a while before the shape of a Belpaire firebox appears.
