Timetable changes on Merseyrail as lockdown begins

Merseyrail has announced timetable amendments after the introduction of national coronavirus restrictions yesterday.

From Monday 9th November a 30-minute service will operate between Liverpool Central and , with 6 carriage trains operating where possible to maintain the capacity.

On other lines, services will be as follows

and Kirkby lines – every 30 minutes Monday to Sunday
line – every 30 minutes Monday to Sunday
• Chester and Ellesmere Port lines – every 30 minutes Monday to Sunday (15-minute service between Hooton and Liverpool)
and New Brighton lines – every 30 minutes Monday to Sunday (15-minute service between and Liverpool)

Services on the Ormskirk line will be terminating at Hunts Cross, so passengers travelling between Southport and Hunts Cross will need to change at Liverpool Central.

Andy Heath, Managing Director at Merseyrail, said: “As a result of the upcoming national restrictions and the impact of COVID-19, we have made the difficult decision to amend our timetables.

“By making this change we are able to operate a safe, reliable and efficient service for those that absolutely need to use our trains.

“I urge all of our customers to continue to follow government travel advice when travelling with us, such as wearing a face-covering at all times unless exempt, travelling at quieter times where possible and maintaining social distancing where you can.”

  1. Just before when the new Merseyrail Class 777 Metro comes into service on the Northern Line, Wirral Line and other routes around Liverpool and Merseyside.
