This weekend (21/22 November) will see work start to upgrade a level crossing on the railway in Blackburn, Lancashire.
Part of the Great North Rail Project, the £2.1m upgrades will see various work completed in the area as well as upgrading the crossing at Daisyfield.
To allow the work to take place, the railway between Blackburn and Clitheroe will be closed on 4 days, Saturday 21 November, Sunday 22 November, Sunday 29 November, Sunday 6 December.
Rail replacement bus services will be in operation when the line is closed. Moss Street will be closed between 21st and 23rd November.
In addition to replacing the level crossing gates and installing lighting at Daisyfield level crossing, the work will also move associated signalling and replace two signals with modern LED ones. Track improvement work between Hoghton and Entwistle.
Mark Rothwell, project manager for Network Rail said: “Making Daisyfield level crossing and the railway track between Preston and Blackburn fit for the future will mean fewer delays and more reliable journeys for both motorists and passengers. This essential work as part of the Great North Rail Project will mean some disruption in the short term, and for that, I’d like to thank people in advance for their patience.
“Passengers are advised to check with train operator Northern or at www.nationalrail.co.uk, so they know what to expect from their journey while the work is taking place.”
Chris Jackson, regional director at Northern, said: “The work to upgrade the railway in Lancashire will help futureproof our network and will deliver a more resilient railway for our customers.
“We will work closely with colleagues from Network Rail to keep disruption to a minimum during the engineering and will do all we can to keep our customers on the move.”

Why not upgrade the line so that it can allow more trains to be used if it was upgraded to double track. Or will it not happen. The level crossing deserves a change.
Also forgot to mention is would the line could be upgraded from single track to double track.
Now come on don’t be silly now. Seriously though it shouldn’t have been singled in the first place.
