Train operator Avanti West Coast has announced that it is withdrawing Peak Travel restrictions during the festive season.
Journeys made from Friday the 18th December until the end of the year will have no peak travel restrictions, which will give passengers a greater choice of trains and also help to maintain social distancing on the trains.
Tickets are now on sale for dates until the end of the year and customers are being advised to plan ahead, organise tickets as well as making a seat reservation.
Services will be finishing earlier on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve as well as starting later on the 27th December and New Year’s Day
An Avanti West Coast spokesperson said: “From 18 December, we’re moving all our services to Off-Peak fares to help the Christmas getaway – making it cheaper for everyone to see their loved ones over the festive season.
“The advice remains the same so you can travel with confidence – plan ahead, make a reservation and travel at quieter times, if you can. When making your journey, wear a face-covering unless you are exempt, carry hand sanitiser and follow social distancing guidance.”
This news follows on from a recent announcement that Friday would also be treated as an off-peak day.

Could Avanti West Coast operate some of their services going via Northampton if that’s possible from next year. Or is that mainly served by London Northwestern Railway.
