After years of being stored in Coventry, the 4 Sub Association has announced that 4732 has been offered a place at the One:One Museum in Margate.
However, the unit must undergo a full cosmetic restoration to make sure it is to a display standard.
This will mean, once cosmetically restored, the unit will be on display alongside an A4, Deltic and a Eurostar.
An appeal will be launched to allow the work to start. 12796 will be the first vehicle to go off site for body overhaul, underframe cleaning and a full repaint before returning to Margate.
The aim is June 2022 for a completion date for 12796, before the whole unit is completed by Summer 2024.
The 4 Sub Association told RailAdvent: “We will need your support, full details of how to be a supporter will be published in due course, as a supporter you can even help us decide what colour to paint it.”

It’s Jolly Wonderful to have and to preserve these fine examples from almost every past ex-BR Class of EMU Passenger Train Design within UK Preservation.
Also to allow Recreations of how Electrical/Diesel-Electrical Rail Travel use to be.
I have to admit, let alone agree… This EMU, is one of the most Unique ex-British Rail Passenger Trains that I’ve ever Discovered.
It would be great to see this fine example of A Classic BR/Southern EMU Class Design to hopefully run once again, Especially within Preservation.
