The General Steam Navigation Locomotive Restoration Society has opened a new fundraising appeal to raise funds for the cost of the transportation and tyre profiling of the bogie and trailing truck wheelsets.
This work is vital in the project to get 35011 General Steam Navigation back in steam.
On the 2nd October 2020, the boiler for General Steam Navigation was successfully lifted from the locomotive’s frames for the first time since 1959, and the trailing truck was also separated from the frames.
The society is now looking for donations to help overhaul the front bogie and trailing truck wheelsets.
It is likely that the work will be completed by South Devon Railway Engineering, and it is currently estimated that the trailing truck axle will be sent to SDRE in late 2020.
This is where the GSNLRS need your help; they need to cover the cost as much as possible, with the initial target set at £3,500. You can donate via their JustGiving page by clicking here.
Work on 35011 will now concentrate on the restoration of the chassis, trailing truck and the front bogie, with more fundraising campaigns to be launched soon.
