The West Shed, where 6233 Duchess of Sutherland is currently based, has announced that there is potential for 6233 Duchess of Sutherland to operate some tours with Locomotive Services Ltd.
The news comes as Jeremy Hosking’s BR 9F No. 92212 recently arrived at the West Shed for overhaul by the PRCLT.
Recently operating at the Mid Hants Railway between 2013 and 2019, the PRCLT has said: “We are very happy to have secured this additional contract work, which will be another important source of income for us in these very challenging times.”
4 engineers are now back at work, 2 will be working on 5551 ‘The Unknown Warrior’ and 2 will be working on 92212.
Flagship mainline locomotive, 6233 Duchess of Sutherland, is not planned to be operating any mainline tours for 2020, but the PRCLT has announced that they entered negotiations with Locomotive Services Ltd over the hire of 6233 to operate some tours in 2021 for Saphos Trains / Locomotive Services Ltd.
6233 Duchess of Sutherland is currently operated by West Coast Railways.

Would it still work it’ scheduled trains down south for 2021 if it started working for Saphos
I believe things like that are still to be confirmed, but at a guess it would potentially work for both Saphos and other tour operators 🙂

I was just mentioning it because I love seeing it hauling tours down south. If not the Duchess West Coast will probably send another express engine such as Princess Elizabeth or BIL. Or maybe some tours for King Edward 1st which is almost finished at the West Somerset

It “rested” at Polmadie.
It would be nice to see 6233 working out of Crewe and in the North instead of down south.
Alf. 6233 Work north of Crewe would be very nice to see once more, but if you go to NRM York in the workshop history gallery they have a list of works in the UK which have built steam loco’s, Crewe is not even listed. So Nigel must have been an apprentice to captain Webb. Crewe will never be given the credit for what it produced in railway history, just watch any of the TV rail programs. Too TRUE the fantastic work Crewe Works did for railways over the past years never seems to be recognised in a “BIOGRAPHY OF STEAM” that should be written by the railway people who have all the correct stories to re_tell in their own way . maybe a lot have passed to the big siding high up there above our heads but I am sure rememberances from friends and family may do just as well > I hope to see it in print soon .at 72
