The North Yorkshire Moors Railway has teamed up with Whitby Abbey to provide some spooky Halloween fun for 2020.
The two attractions have joined together to offer a fun and enjoyable day out this Half Term.
Between 24th October and 1st November 2020, visitors who show their ghostly costumes will have the chance to treat themselves to a return family visit in 2021.
Visitors can enjoy a steam train ride from Pickering to Whitby on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway’s Optimist service in your best fancy dress costume. Hop off the train at Whitby and head to Whitby Abbey for a few hours of fun, tales and stories before jumping back on the train back to Pickering.
Any visitors that visit both the railway and abbey, and share a #spookyselfie and tag both the NYMR and Whitby Abbey could win two family days out in 2021.
Laura Strangeway, Head of Marketing at NYMR, said: “We’re really excited to team up with Whitby Abbey to offer visitors double the spooky fun this Halloween. We just love seeing the railway decked out for the spookiest time of the year and can’t wait to see our visitors in their creepy costumes! We really appreciate the support our loyal guests have shown during the pandemic months, and wanted to offer something back; so don those ghoulish costumes, snap a selfie and visit two of our county’s top attractions for heaps of Halloween fun this half term!”
Mark Williamson, Regional Property Manager, Whitby Abbey said: “The unique feel in Whitby’s streets, the curious tales associated with the town and of course the Dracula connection always combine to make Halloween a special time of year in Whitby. As usual, the Abbey will be the focal point of celebrations with lots of Halloween fun for young and old. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is an excellent family attraction – and an excellent stress-free way to reach Whitby – and we are delighted to be working with them again to help visitors and locals alike enjoy a half-term full of spooky family fun.”
Pre-booking is essential at both attractions, to book visit nymr.co.uk/the-optimist and www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/whats-on/whitby-abbey—spooky-whitby-abbey-24-oct—1-nov-2020/

Wow (or as Putt-Putt, the Cheery Purple Car, in Classic Interactive Adventure Computer Gaming would say… Wowy Zowy)…
I think it’s A Jolly Grand Idea of both the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and the Wonderfully Historic Whitby Abbey teaming up together this Halloween 2020… Especially at An infamously challenging Modern Period the Whole of the UK are Bravely going through.
I Wish Both the NYMR and Whitby Abbey… Good Luck on this Halloween Event of theirs.
