The is celebrating its 40th anniversary and has launched a new website where people can share their memories.

Metro Memories can be accessed at www.metromemories.co.uk and members of the public as well as Metro staff are being asked to share pictures and stories from the last 40 years.

Pictures of royal events, images of construction, events and famous people have already been uploaded to the site by who own and manage the Tyne & Wear Metro.

Millions of people have used the Metro over the last 40 years and it has provided a means of transport for going to work, school, sporting events and more.

You can submit your memories and photographs of the Tyne and Wear Metro, and as well as viewing those already there by going to www.metromemories.co.uk

Customer Services Director at Nexus, Huw Lewis, said: “Metro has played a significant part in the lives of so many people, and we’d love to find out more about some of those memories.

“It could be from a big event, on your way to your first night out on the town or your first day at work, a family trip to the coast – there’s so many fond memories and special moments from the last 40 years and we want to share as many as we can.

“Metro has a very exciting future ahead of it but our 40th anniversary is a perfect time to look back and celebrate the impact we have had in Tyne and Wear, and on people’s lives.”
