Network Rail is once again asking parents to speak to their children about the dangers of the railway after children were trespassing in Somerset.
The three children who were aged between 6 and 9 were spotted on the line near Crewkerne in Somerset.
The children accessed the tracks via a level crossing. They were spotted by the driver of a South Western Railway driver around 2 pm on the 26th of September.
The driver stopped the train and spoke to the children asking them to leave the railway.
On most of the South Western Railway lines are live rails which carry 750 volts of electricity, in addition to the danger of the trains themselves.
Marcia Burnett, community safety manager for Network Rail Wessex, said: “Trespassing is extremely dangerous and it is never safe to hang around on the railway.
“It’s vital that we make children and young people aware of the dangers and the devastating consequences that trespassing can have by educating them, and by setting an example.”

What kind of parent allows a 6 year old child out without supervision to play near a railway line? I don’t blame the children, it’s the parents who should be punished.
Thankfully the line doesn’t have electrified 3rd rail at Crewkerne.
They are perfectly safe to play on the railway tracks there.
It’s so heart breaking to see our Heritage Railways targeted by vandals.
My main concern is the police don’t always act quick enough even if they know who it is .
Then they go to court & the judge refuses to start making an example .
Thus this will carry on till somebody has the balls to say enough is enough make them pay for the damage what ever the cost you can’t keep expecting Heritage Railways to keep footing bills for criminal damage it’s wrong it’s going to kill our heritage off .
An example was the Nymr damage to the team coach’s the judge say he didn’t want to ruin there carrier chances . But they don’t think of the jobs they could have cost due too there action a pocket money fine is not enough over £100000 of damage . I don’t care if your son or daughter is from
A well to do family or a poor family you commit the crime you pay the price maybe mummy & Daddy should teach wrong from right
I absolutely agree with you, Punster of York. If the children are under age, then the parents should be given a hefty fine. Hit them hard and perhaps parents would start taking responsibility for their children. It was the same with the Market Deeping Model Railway Club – over £30,000 of damage and the culprits were fined £80.
I feel so angry reading this. The parents should take responsibility for not allowing their kids anywhere near to the railway tracks or playing “chicken” on the railway tracks where there are trains travelling at high speed.
The parents shouldn’t allowed their kids on or near the railway tracks. Terrible on how kids are getting involved and the risk of trespassing and playing on the railway tracks or near it could increase even more. Railway lines aren’t playgrounds. Does the area have CCTV.
