South Western Railway has confirmed that it has started offering Apple Pay as a payment method on its app and website, and is one of the first train operators to offer the service in the UK.
Apple Pay makes it easier for passengers to buy their tickets online. All passengers need to do is use an Apple Device, like an iPad or iPhone, to access the South Western Railway app or website and purchase a ticket.
The Apple Pay function allows passengers to buy tickets without having to enter card details every time they purchase a ticket. Instead, Apple Pay stores their information and saves it on the device, allowing the transaction to be processed in seconds.
Using the South Western Railway App also allows passengers to use e-tickets which can be saved to their phone, rather than having to pick up a ticket at the station before travelling.
Peter Williams, Commercial Director for South Western Railway, said: “Using our app or our website has always been the easiest way to buy train tickets. We’re constantly looking at new technology to make buying tickets even easier for our customers, and this new feature will do just that.”
