Ruislip Lido Railway opens doors for Open House London weekend

The Lido Railway has confirmed that it will be holding open days this weekend at Woody Bay as part of the Open House weekend.

The open days will take place on the 19th and 20th of September.

Events part of the Open House London aim to allow access to locations not normally accessible to the public. Whilst the RLR has had open days in the past; this will be the first open day as part of a wider event.

The open days will run from 11:00 – 17:00 on both days.

A 20-minute train service will be in operation, with double heading taking place using the four big diesels.

The first train will leave each station at 11:00, and the last train will be the 17:20 from Woody Bay (17:40 from Willow Lawn).

Regular fares will be in operation this weekend, but a rover ticket will be able to be purchased after a successful trial at the Double Heading day in September 2019.

The event will follow the same format from previous years, building on the success of the open days held at the 40th Anniversary Gala in 2019. Some small changes will have to be made to follow current coronavirus guidance, such as:

  • Social distancing guidelines in place
  • One way system in place through the workshop, with hand sanitiser available
  • Face coverings will be required whilst in the workshop
  • Visitors will not be able to sit in the locomotives in the yard area

Mad Bess will be on display whilst she is undergoing a 10-year overhaul, with Robert and P-Way vehicles on display in the yard.

This is most definitely worth a day out.
