Merchant Navy steam locomotive in Carlisle today

Steam locomotive 35018 British India Line will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in and around today.

The train, hauled by a diesel locomotive to begin, left Chester at approximately 07:48 am.

Along the way it makes stops at Warrington Bank Quay (08:20), Wigan North Western (08:46) and Leyland (08:59), Preston (09:10) and Blackburn (09:38) to pick up passengers.

Upon arrival at Hellifield Goods Loop (10:28), 35018 British India Line will be added train for the run up the Settle and Carlisle. Departing Hellifield at 11:05, the locomotive will steam through Ribblehead (11:26) and Garsdale (11:42) before stopping at Appleby at 12:03.

Departing Appleby at 12:28, the locomotive will head through Lazonby and Kirkoswald at 12:45 before arriving into Carlisle at 13:13.

On the return trip, 35018 British India Line will head via Penrith (16:10), Oxenholme Lake District (17:02), before arriving into Carnforth at 17:21.

Here, the diesels will take back over and will pass through Lancaster (18:34), Preston (18:58), Leyland (19:09), Wigan North Western (19:24), Warrington Bank Quay (19:37), Frodsham (20:05), and Chester at 20:37.
