Network Rail has announced that improvements to Aldrington railway station in Hove, Sussex have been completed. Over £500,000 has been invested in the project.
First opened in 1905 forming part of the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway, the station is now part of the West Coastway Line, taking just 7 minutes on the train to Brighton.
The work at the Aldrington station involved works to restore and strengthen both platforms.
In addition, de-vegetation works took place and the platform surfaces were jet washed.
Shaun King, Sussex route director for Network Rail, said: “Network Rail is committed to providing the best possible environment for passengers and these works will improve Aldrington station for many years to come. A considerable amount of work and effort has been put into the refurbishment scheme and I’m very pleased it has been so successful.”
Chris Fowler, Customer Services Director for Southern, said: “On behalf of our Aldrington customers I welcome this investment in safety and comfort at the station, and thank Network Rail for the way they planned this work to minimise disturbance for our passengers, neighbours and station staff.”

Nice to see the platforms extended to accommodate longer trains. Including Southern Class 377 and Gatwick Express Class 387/2.
Maybe some stations on the East Coastway Line, Seaford branch line, Bognor Regis branch line and West Coastway Line could have platforms extended to allow 4-Car Class 377s and in future Class 458 cascaded from SWR to work on those lines if Southern is to replace the Class 455 and Class 313.
