Work is progressing on a new carriage maintenance facility on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway near Pickering Station.
As part of the Yorkshire’s Magnificient Journey project, contractor Hobson & Porter recently started the steel erection for the new facility.
When complete, the five-track carriage shed will allow for storage of the NYMR’s 40 heritage carriages, protecting them from the weather and allow for servicing and cleaning to be completed undercover.
The project is estimated to be completed by March 2021.
Along with the carriage shed, the YMJ Appeal is renewing railway bridges along the line, as well as converting four carriages to allow for accessible facilities onboard trains.
