The isn’t a big railway, but like other heritage railways, it has a heart of gold, with a band of dedicated volunteers who are determined to see as much of Gwinear Road to Helston reopened.

Prior to the lockdown, the railway purchased Class 127 DMU power cars 51616 and 51622 – only six were saved for preservation.

51616 has arrived at the Helston Railway and is named Alf Benney after a former driver, however, 51622 is still residing at the Great Central Railway.

The Helston Railway, like others, has turned its 2020 plans upside down, and now their priority is survival.

To help them survive, an appeal was set up to help pay for expenses like rent, insurance etc., however, alongside this, the appeal was set up as a commitment to refurbish 51616 and 51622 and have them ready for service in 2021.

The Class 127 will not be the only DMU at the railway, as the Helston Railway already own the sole surviving Class 103 unit, with power car 50413 and driver trailer 56169, which is currently in use as a Buffet and Waiting Room.

The railways original appeal did not bring in the money it was expecting, so the Helston Railway really need your help.

To donate online, please visit the Helston Railway website by clicking here.

Additionally, the Helston Railway has other methods of donating, including PayPal, Bank Transfer and Cheque. Please get in touch with the railway to discuss options and to find out more information.

The Helston Railway has told RailAdvent: “With your help, the volunteers will ensure that the railway continues to thrive. In the meantime, please take care and stay well.”

  1. My heart still goes out to the this Well-Preserved Little Cornish Heritage Railway Attraction – of whom is indeed with A Big Heart of Gold.

I feel sorry for the Helston Railway on having chosen to wait until this time Next Year 2021, I do hope they eventually Reopen Back Up and Running within the Foreseeable Future.

I also still hope to visit & check the Helston Railway ‘in-person’ someday, Especially Cornwall itself within-between.

This Cornish Heritage Railway Attration most definitely (even in my book) has A Future…

To Me, All Heritage Railways, (Especially the Helston Railway itself) Deserve to be Preserved.

Good Luck to the Helston Railway – Cornwall, on their Aimful Goal(s) in Anyways Possible.
