Steam locomotive 45662 Alberta heading to Scarborough this Thursday

Steam locomotive No.45562 Alberta will be back in steam on the mainline and will be in York and Seamer on Thursday 13th August 2020.

The locomotive is hauling the York to Scarborough leg of the Scarborough Spa Express, which originates in Carnforth.

The heritage diesel will depart Carnforth at 06:10 am and will pass through Lancaster (06:16), Preston (06:40), Blackburn (07:38), Accrington (07:54), Burnley Manchester Road (08:05), Hebden Bridge (08:26), Brighouse (08:45), Wakefield Kirkgate (09:18), and York Holgate Loop (10:10), where 45562 will be added.

The steam locomotive will depart York at approximately 11:27 am.

The railtour will then leave York, bound for the Scarborough, where it will steam through Malton (12:03) and Seamer (12:25) before arriving at Scarborough at 12:34.

After around 4 hours at the seaside town, 45562 Alberta will depart for Carnforth at 16:41, steaming through Seamer (16:49) and Malton (17:13) before arriving at York at 17:44, where the steam locomotive is taken off the train and is replaced by diesel locomotives.

From York, the diesel locomotives will head back to Carnforth via Wakefield Kirkgate (19:25), Hebden Bridge (20:46), Accrington (21:21), Blackburn (21:31), Preston (22:03), Lancaster (22:52) and Carnforth (23:08).

  1. Please may I humbly suggest that your headline Locomotive Number should read 45562 ( not 45662 ). I am delighted to see Alberta alive and steaming in all her glory. Well done to all the dedicated people who have saved her. Takes me back 60 odd years to when I was a young Train Spotter and Jubilees were my favourite Locomotives and many of their Names and Numbers are still engraved into my memory.
