ScotRail has increased the number of train services that operate from this week.

More than 90% of normal train services are now operating on the network. All routes will have normal morning, late night and peak services, with 100% of normal capacity being provided during peak travel hours, although seats will need to remain empty for social distancing purposes.

The suspension of driver training during the lockdown, due to social distancing rules making it impossible for two people to sit in the driver’s cab at the same time, means ScotRail is not able to operate a full service at the moment.

ScotRail has recently announced a move to a minimum of one-metre social distancing on trains and at stations, which came into effect on Monday, 27 July.

David Simpson, ScotRail Operations Director, said: “Thanks to the hard work of staff across Scotland’s Railway, we’ll operate as close to a normal timetable as possible from Monday, 3 August. Like businesses across the world, we continue to face challenges caused by , but we will have every available train in service from 3 August.

“We do need everybody to continue taking personal responsibility for their travel choices, because physical distancing can’t be guaranteed. Customers who do travel with ScotRail should follow our five rules for safer travel, including the wearing of a face covering on trains and at stations.”

  1. ScotRail is the best rail operator in Scotland with new Class 385 and Class 43 Inter7City stocks. And beautiful scenic routes including the highlands. Shame that the Fife Circle Lines aren’t allowed to be electrified.
