The Department for Transport has issued a dispensation for trains that needed extra modifications to make them accessible for those with extra mobility needs.
The dispensation has been sent to Angel Trains, the owner of the Class 156 trains which are leased to ScotRail.
This means that they can continue to operate past the deadline, which was 1st January 2020.
The extra mods included priority seating, door control arrangements, and handrail colour contrast amongst others.
The fleet of Class 156s that needed the extra modifications are below: 156430, 156431, 156432, 156433, 156434, 156435, 156436, 156437, 156439, 156442, 156445, 156446, 156450, 156453, 156456, 156457, 156458, 156462, 156467, 156474, 156476, 156477, 156492, 156493, 156494, 156495, 156499, 156500, 156501, 156502, 156503, 156504, 156505, 156506, 156507, 156508, 156509, 156510, 156511, 156512, 156513, 156514.

Nice to see the Class 156 units to be refurbished to be used in the north of Scotland. Including Inverness-Wick and Thurso. And Fort William-Kyle of Lochalsh and Oban.
The Class 156 that will be used on the local lines in the Scottish Highlands will provide better rail journeys and offer more capacity. With some cascaded from other rail operators that ScotRail inherited the Class 156s from.
It’s good that ScotRail’s Class 156 Sprinter DMUs will be used in the north of Scotland.
