From Monday 6 July, TransPennine Express will be increasing train services that run in their amended timetable.
The step-up in capacity comes as lockdown restrictions are lifted across England, allowing more businesses to reopen.
Although there is an increase in the numbers of trains being run, there will continue to be restrictions on capacity to help maintain social distancing.
Passengers who are using public transport should wear a face covering. This is mandatory – except for the exempt list of passengers, which include those with disabilities, breathing difficulties or children under 11.
From Monday 4 July, TPE will generally be running the following services:
- Hourly service between Liverpool and Newcastle
- Hourly service between Hull and Manchester Piccadilly
- Hourly stopping service between Leeds and Huddersfield
- Hourly stopping service between Manchester Piccadilly and Huddersfield
- Hourly service between Manchester Airport and Redcar Central
- Hourly service between Cleethorpes and Manchester Piccadilly
- Two-hourly service between Manchester Airport and Edinburgh
- Shuttle service between York and Scarborough
Additionally, there will be limited Transpennine Express service between Newcastle and Edinburgh along with Glasgow Central to Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Airport.

‘Normal’ is only 50% of the services though?
Will it mean that TransPennine Express could expand their network not just in the Northwest but in the Northeast and across the North Pennines and South Pennines.
Which they are competing with other rival train operators that operates in the North of England (including-Northern Trains, London North Eastern Railway (LNER), Avanti West Coast, Hull Trains, ScotRail, Transport for Wales, East Midlands Railway, London Northwestern Railway and Crosscountry).
It’s still only about 50% of normal on the Liverpool/Manchester Airport-Leeds-York corridor.
