Trial trains have operated on the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway ahead of its grand reopening this weekend.

Like other railways around the UK, the RHDR had to close and stop trains operating due to the lockdown.

Now, thanks to a lifting of lockdown restrictions, the will be reopening on the 4th July 2020 with steam back in action.

The RHDR says that the survival of the railway will be led by how many passengers use the railway in the days following Saturday 4th July 2020.

Pre-booking is essential, with all journeys from New Romney and a journey to Dungeness and back. Passengers will have 20 minutes at Dungeness before their designated return time.

Two metre markers will be in place where queues form, and partitions will be in place between carriage compartments. This will mean those the compartment next to you will be close, but contact will be restricted.

The RHDR is also advising adults to wear a face-covering when they visit.

The Model Railway Exhibition and Play Areas at New Romney are temporarily closed.

You can buy tickets from their website by clicking here, with departures from New Romney being at:

  • 10:30
  • 11:30
  • 12:30
  • 1:30
  • 2:30
  • 3:30

We have contacted the RHDR for more information regarding their reopening.
