At a level crossing in Manningtree, the barriers were taken off after being hit by a lorry, causing disruption to rail services and road traffic.
The road was closed for two hours while repairs were being done so it could be made safe again for road traffic and for the trains.
People were advised to avoid the area and follow diversions.
A Network Rail spokesperson said at the time of the incident: “We have engineers on site carrying out repairs as quickly as they can. I apologise to those affected and understand how frustrating this disruption is, especially as we approach home time on a Friday. It is vital that we make the level crossing safe for everyone before re-opening the road.”

I genuinely do think that there are lots of idiot drivers on the roads. It’s like what has happened at Ely level crossing. Just before the new A142 Ely Southern bypass was built. To take HGVs and other large vehicles away from the low bridge and level crossing which has helped a lot.
I hope the truck driver who caused the incident has been sacked, arrested and is facing trial and possible prison sentenced for dangerous driving, causing disruptions and property damage to the barriers.
Andrew Gwilt, you have been warned before for speculating about the causes of accidents. You seen very certain that the lorry driver was entirely to blame. Does it not occur to you that the barriers might have been faulty or there could have been other extenuating circumstances?
Things must be very black and white in your strange little world. If the driver was hung, drawn and quartered, would this satisfy you?
Since when I was being warned. How did you know if I was speculating 🙄
Don’t waste your time Peter, it’s not worth the bother. I’ve tried and I know. He posts the same old nonsense at so many sites and has been banned from quite a few. It’s pretty obvious he’s not playing with a full deck so people tend to ignore him. I respectfully suggest you do the same.
Shut up for goodness sake, nobody hurt or killed. Yes he should be suspended, certainly not imprisonment
Even burglers thieves, child molesters don’t get jailed,. Just think you totally anti lorry driver.
Sorry Victoria
It looks like there was no body affected, by your story.
Network Rail could just board up the crossing and save a lot of money.
