The Bala Lake Railway has announced that they have received £40,000 from the National Lottery to help with the impact of COVID-19.
Since the pandemic and lockdown began, the Bala Lake Railway has been closed and have been unable to operate any trains. This has meant no income for the railway and has put the heritage railway and local jobs at risk.
Julian Birley at the Bala Lake Railway said: “Thanks to the National Lottery and its players we can now have a much greater hope of coming through these unprecedented times better and stronger. We’re grateful that The National Lottery Heritage Fund is supporting us at this crucial time – it’s a lifeline to us and others who are passionate about sustaining heritage for the benefit of all.”
The funding was made possible through National Lottery players and was awarded through the Heritage Emergency Fund.
£50m has been made available to provide funding for those in need in the heritage sector.
Ros Kerslake, Chief Executive of The National Lottery Heritage Fund, said: “Heritage has an essential role to play in making communities better places to live, supporting economic regeneration and benefiting our personal wellbeing. All of these things are going to be even more important as we emerge from this current crisis. Thanks to money raised by National Lottery players we are pleased to be able to lend our support to organisations such as The Bala Lake Railway during this uncertain time.”

A Jolly Well Done to the Brilliant ”Bala Lake Railway” on being Successfully Awarded by the National Lottery… And on the BLR’s own role in fighting back/combating Covid-19.
Although Ive yet to visit, check it out and ride the BLR ‘in-person’ someday… I’d definitely look forward to doing so someday… If ever I can revisit/return to Wales someday.
This Narrow-Gauge Railway Transportation Attraction… is msot definitely on my ”Eagerly-Must-Visit” Destinations UK List.
By the way,, I do beleive the BLR’s Rewarding from the National Lottery may even be helping them to hopefully extend closer to the nearby town of Bala itself one day.
