The Ruislip Lido Railway has confirmed that a new book will be released in 2020 which covers their 75-year history.
2020 marks 75 years since the opening of the Ruislip Lido Railway, which would have seen a special gala held. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, this has unfortunately been postponed until 2021.
The railway is well known but is often overlooked in enthusiast circles. There has not been any form of published history on the Ruislip Lido Railway.
A massive amount of change has been seen over the past 75 years, in particular, the last 40 years since the operation of the RLR was handed over to the Ruislip Lido Railway Society in 1980.
Ruislip Lido Railway Society Director, Chris Ladyman, told RailAdvent: “Over the last 18 months our archivists have made particular efforts to collect material, poured through our paper archives, and spent a great deal of time pestering some of our members for photos and information. This has all worked towards the ultimate aim of putting together a book to mark 75 years of the railway.
Chris continued “I’m pleased to say that the book is now very nearly finished and will be available in the coming 6-8 weeks all being well. The book details the history of Ruislip Reservoir / Lido, before a comprehensive look through the history of the railway, right from the 1940s to the present day. Further sections take in the route, locomotives, rolling stock and infrastructure, among other features. The book contains 300 pages, packed full of information and photos, including a significant amount of previously unpublished material from a wide variety of sources.”
More information on release date and how to get a copy will be made available soon!
