Northern has confirmed that the DalesRail service, which runs from Blackpool North to Carlisle via Blackburn and the Settle to Carlisle line, will not run in 2020.

The DalesRail service would have run each Sunday in the Summer of 2020 to give passengers access to the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus restrictions, the operator has taken the decision to suspend the service until 2021.

Chris Jackson, Regional Director at Northern, said: “We know how popular the DalesRail service is, and the decision to remove it this year was not an easy one to take. Coronavirus has had a huge impact on so many parts of our lives and we have all had to make changes to help prevent the spread of the virus. Sadly, as we asking people to avoid using public transport where possible – particularly for leisure travel – stopping this year’s DalesRail service was inevitable. The railway is open however and customers who need to travel from the Ribble Valley to stations on the Settle and Carlisle Line can still make their journeys by travelling via Leeds.”
