The Blaenavon’s Heritage Railway is asking for donations towards overhauling a vital carriage needed to operate their trains when they reopen.
British Rail Standard Corridor (SK) carriage
One of the key elements needed for the Blaenavon’s Heritage Railway to run passenger trains is carriages featuring compartments.
This will allow passengers separated in groups up to eight people across the eight compartments onboard. Unfortunately one of these carriages is undergoing an overhaul.
To speed up the carriage’s return to traffic, the line would like to hire in a contractor. Although they could complete all repairs and maintenance required within a month, it would cost £10,000.
Therefore, the railway is seeking donations towards the cost of the overhaul, as they currently have no visitor income and many fixed costs still to pay.
The railway’s COVID-19 Appeal has raised £2,314 to date, which the railway and it’s volunteers are very grateful for. Anyone donating £10 to £24.99 will be entered into a prize drawn to win a family ticket, with donations of £25 and over will be entered into a prize drawn to win a Heritage Experience.
