The Ravenglass Railway Museum has released an update on the overhaul on their steam locomotive Bassett-Lowke built 15 Gauge 4-4-2 “Synolda”.
Before the lockdown paused work on the engine, the team had begun to clean, repair and repaint several components. This includes the both coupled wheelsets and both leading bogie wheelsets in undercoats of white, all four wheel slashers for the coupled wheels and running boards, which are now all in top coats of blue.
While striping back the previous paintwork, even the original green livery worn in 1912, the team noticed a few interesting features.
It would appear the coupled wheels may have been replaced at some point, when and where is unknown. This is the same for the cylinders, which have been replaced.
Owned by Ravenglass Railway Museum Trust, “Synolda”‘s overhaul is being funded by donations to the Trust.
