A man who has been missing his daily commute on the Tyne and Wear Metro has recreated Monument station on Animal Crossing.
Artist, Euan Lynn, has been furloughed and has been playing Animal Cross: New Horizons during the lockdown.
Euan’s recreation of Newcastle’s Monument station has authentic signage and tracks.
Euan said “I had to draw each component, and then work out how to make it work within the limitations of the game. Probably the hardest part was reproducing the Metro’s iconic Calvert font within such tight limitations.”
Animal Crossing was released by Nintendo in March.
Euan continued “I’m just very glad people seem to be so taken with it. I have a great interest in the design of these everyday things and places that we use and take for granted, so I think such strange times as these are a good opportunity to reflect on these things – like the design of a Metro station.”
Customer Services Director at Nexus, Huw Lewis, said: “Metro stations like Monument have an iconic and instantly-recognisable design which it’s amazing to see has even reached Animal Crossing. Metro is normally part of every day life in North East England, but not many of us can actually get out and travel around like we’re used to – but Metro is still obviously inspiring Euan, and perhaps other people, to create new works of art and imagination while they’re cooped up at home. It’s Metro’s 40th anniversary this year – maybe we can celebrate that by sharing a few more pictures, animations and other ideas on our Twitter and Instagram accounts – we’d love to hear from people.”

Never knew that he’s done that on Animal Crossing. Incredible. What about doing it on Minecraft.
