Final TransPennine Express Class 397 delivered from CAF

Eversholt Rail accepts final Class 397 train from CAF

Eversholt Rail has confirmed that they have accepted their final Class 397 train from manufacturers CAF.

The final Class 397 train was accepted by on the 31st March 2020.

The full fleet of 12 Class 397 trains, each in 5-car formation, are in use with to operate their Anglo-Scottish services between Manchester, Liverpool Lime Street, Glasgow Central and Edinburgh Waverley via the West Coast Mainline.

Nos. 397001 – 3970012 are part of TransPennine Express’ full fleet of new trains, including Class 802s from Hitachi, and Class 68 + Mk5s from CAF and Stadler. These new trains operate across the North of England and Scotland alongside Class 185 DMUs.

Eversholt Rail has said, “This is a fantastic example of cross-team working between the teams at Transpennine Express, CAF and Eversholt Rail”.

  1. CAF are still working on manufacturing the West Midlands Railway Class 196 and are to manufacture the Transport for Wales Class 197. With the possibility of manufacturing more diesel and electric Civity stocks.

    Also perhaps CAF might also think about manufacturing the new London Underground tube stocks to replace the 1972 Stocks on the Bakerloo Line and the 1992 Stocks on the Central and Waterloo & City Lines.

    As Siemens is to manufacture the new tube stocks to replace the 1973 Stocks for the Piccadilly Line.
