Essential work will be taking place between Fenchurch Street and Barking during the Early May Bank Holiday.
This means that Fenchurch Street station will be closed from Friday 8th May until Monday 11th May.
Engineers will be carrying out essential overhead wire maintenance work between Fenchurch Street and Barking. Trains will be diverted to London Liverpool Street, which is only a short walk away from Fenchurch Street.
c2c train services will be diverted to London Liverpool Street and will call at Stratford additionally.
Further diversions will take place on the Okendon Line, with trains being diverted between Grays and Barking. Trains will call additionally at Purfleet, Rainham and Dagenham Dock. In addition to this, a Grays – Upminster shuttle will also operate.
Rainham line trains will be extended and will start and terminate at Southend Central.

Ellie Burrows, Network Rail‘s managing director for Anglia, said:
“Our teams are carrying out vital upgrades and maintenance work to keep the rail network running safely and smoothly, and to reduce the number of delays and cancellations. This will benefit those who need to travel now and improve reliability for when more passengers return. Those who need to travel should check how their journey will be affected.”

Network Rail needs to replace the ageing overhead wires at Fenchurch Street and between Fenchurch Street and Bromley-by-Bow since it was first installed in the 1950s.
As well installing new overhead wires, tracks and signalling on the new Barking Riverside Line that will be part of the London Overground extension and to run Class 710 trains once it’s completed.
