Bristol-based Network Rail signallers have teamed up with Bristol Food Union to support many vulnerable people during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Formed from many local food-related businesses across Bristol, the Bristol Food Union provides many meals for people who need them most.

Transporting these meals across the city is an important job, and Network Rail signallers have helped out.

With the Food Union seeing a 30% increase in demand for meals, the signallers will also assist in setting up new kitchens.

Network Rail’s Programme Manager for Wales and Western Works Delivery Joanne said “I am proud and in awe of the commitment from the team to support the community, whilst everyone is also faced with the challenges of adapting to the pandemic. Due to Network Rail being able to move freely around the city, and with the fleet capacity to deliver the provisions, it has meant we can focus on providing the support to those individuals who need it.”

Marketing Director of Hobbs House Bakery (apart of the Union) Anna Herbert said: “We are delighted to be sharing our bread where people most need it during this crisis and are grateful to all those on the front line that are helping us to take care of our communities.”
