The Barnards Miniature Railway has confirmed that they will be running a virtual LOCOFEST gala.
Inspired by other railways, such as the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, the Barnards Miniature Railway are asking for people to post photos and videos of their time at the BMR.
The LOCOFEST gala was one of many galas that the Barnards Miniature Railway had planned for its 10 anniversary year, having first run in 2010.
However, due to Coronavirus, these galas have been cancelled due to social distancing guidelines.
As a substitute, the BMR has decided to run a small virtual gala. The aim is for lots of people to post photos and videos of either the Barnards Miniature Railway or locomotives visiting other railways from the BMR.
Today, 28th May 2020, a post will be made in the 7 1/4″ Railways Group on Facebook where people simply comment pictures or make a separate post using the #BMRVirtualGala – you will need to request to join the group before posting.
Barnards Miniature Railway volunteer, Nathan Bentley, told RailAdvent “Our locofest gala was meant to be one of our biggest galas since our opening almost 10 years ago, with lots of various visiting engines booked to attend as well as our resident fleet. I and a lot of the other members are gutted that the event can no longer go ahead, so hosting this virtual gala allows us to reflect on the good times we had in the past. Hopefully, it won’t be too long before we can reopen again.”
You can join the 7 1/4″ Railways group by clicking here. The gala will run until Sunday 31st May 2020 around 5 pm.
