The Clan Project has released their latest update on the construction of British Railways Standard Class 6 No.72010 “Hengist” at CTL Seal.
Frame
Once CTL Seal opens back up after the current lockdown, their inspection team will examine 72010‘s frame to check squareness and flatness.
Any issues can be corrected at this stage before progressing.
Machining has been completed on all three cast steel stretches. A start has been made to producing the clips for the main train vacuum pipe. Running the length of the engine from buffer beam to cab and crossing over from underneath the left running board to the right, many clips will be needed to hold the pipe.
Undercoat paint has been applied to the three sandboxes for “Hengist”.
Bogie
With machining finished, the side plates for the bogie are now ready to enter the assembly area. Following some additional adjustments, the cast central stretcher can now be machined with the order placed with CTL Seal and drawings provided. Currently undergoing machining, the side control spring beams fit into the centre stretcher.
The cast iron bogie pivot bush and both setting screws await fitting into the centre slide casting which is due to be delivered. The ‘V Strips’, a component which controls side to side movement in the bogie, are due to arrive.
