Steam locomotive, London Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) ‘Jinty’ 3F No 47406 has been withdrawn from traffic following its heritage boiler certificate expiring on Wednesday 22nd of April 2020.

Following restoration from Barry Scrapyard condition, where many parts had been removed to be used on other engines, No.47406 (also numbered 16489 and 7406 under LMS ownership) entered service for the first time in 43 years on Sunday 10th of January 2010 at the Great Central Railway (GCR), where restoration was completed at Loughborough Motive Power Depot (MPD).

Due to 47406’s size and power, the tank is well suited to many trains hauled between Loughborough Central Station and Leicester North Station on the GCR.

During its first boiler ticket in preservation, 47406 has visited many preserved lines, such as the Nene Valley Railway and Severn Valley Railway.

Now withdrawn from traffic, steam locomotive 47406 is currently stored as COVID-19 has preserved railways closed until the lockdown restrictions are lifted.
