North Norfolk Railway (NNR) has announced that their COVID-19 Emergency Appeal has now raised over £26,000 to help the line survive during the lockdown.
This is excellent news for the railway, which runs from Sheringham to Holt, as they have had to close due to the Coronavirus crisis.
There are many ways to still support the railway, including two new products in NNR’s online shop, which are:
- Virtual Footplate Ride – Missing the sight and sound of steam and wish you could be steaming along the North Norfolk Railway? Then the virtual footplate ride is perfect for you. Your journey from Sheringham to Holt will be on board Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway Society owned Great Eastern Railway Y14 Class No.564. For more information or to book your virtual ride now, please visit their online shop by clicking here.
- Footplate Ride – Although the railway is closed until further notice, you can purchase a Footplate Ride on board of the many steam locomotives based at the railway, which can be used once the line reopens. Buying a Footplate Ride will also provide a good income source for the railway during the outbreak. For more information or to book your footplate ride now, please visit their online shop by clicking here.

As a regular visitor to Sheringham and ‘The Poppy Line’ I’m so glad they’ve an income of sorts. It may not have the grandeur of some of the other preserved lines, but certainly makes up for it with stunning views and friendly, dedicated staff and volunteers.
Wow, This is Jolly Good News to hear, I always knew the North Norfolk Railway (which I myself hope to visit and ride aboard ‘in-person’ someday) would succeed even further.
Such a lot of money for a Heritage Railway keen eager to reopen once again within the foreseeable future too.
Well Done so far to the NNR/Poppy Line on how well so far they’re doing, Keep it up and Good Luck.
