The Bluebell Railway Atlantic Group have posted their latest update, containing progress on building new build London, Brighton and South Coast Railway H2 Class No.32424 “Beachy Head” at the Bluebell Railway.
Boiler
Over the winter the team have been busy cutting and forming the lagging and cladding for the boiler.
This work has taken longer than expected, but the majority of the firebox is completed, with the curved panels the last to be fitted.
The sheets for the boiler barrel have been ordered, but unlikely to arrive soon due to COVID-19.
Tender
Great progress has been made on the tender, with recent work seeing the injector water feed stainless steel strainers fixed in place. A new addition to the tender tank is the fitting of a manhole, to allow easier access for maintenance and repair.
Two cupboards have been fitted to house shut off valves and gauges for both the air and vacuum systems.
On top of the tank, the flared top and coal rail are being trial fitted, with the beading also being fixed on. The safety links are ready for fitting.
