The has launched an appeal asking for donations to help support them during the lockdown caused by COVID-19.

With the heritage line closing a month ago (Tuesday 17th March) for the foreseeable future, the railway cannot operate any train services.

This means that they are losing out on the majority of their income from ticket sales, and the line is seeking donations to increase their chances of survival in these difficult times.

Elizabeth McGuiness, General Manager at the Llangollen Railway, told RailAdvent: “I would ask anyone who can, to donate to Llangollen Railway in this very difficult time, please don’t let our wonderful railway die.”

If you can donate, please visit the Llangollen Railway website by clicking here.

What did they say?

Looking back on their accomplishments, the railway said:

“Forty-five years of endeavour in rebuilding the railway as a tourist attraction is under threat. Yes, the railway is closed and may never reopen its doors if we don’t receive enough donations or grant funding. We are extremely grateful for the donations we have received so far and they are helping to keep us alive for now.

This Easter marks 30 years since we reopened to Deeside Halt, as an extension from Berwyn and an occasion which was then celebrated as a major advance with the preservation project, prior to further extensions to Glyndyfrdwy in 1992 and Carrog in 1996. It would be a travesty if we were never to see our 46th year and completion through to Corwen.”

  1. My heart still goes out (along with my full support) to the ”Eagerly-Must-Visit” Llangollen Railway, (whom I nickname the ”Llangollen & Corwen Railway”, which is after all extending up the Dee Valley of the Flowing River Dee to the Colourful Market Town of Corwen).

I wonder how this Heritage Railway (whom it’s future, I myself hope it gets fully forever secured, to help forever preserve this ex-cross country line) is getting on with that Appealing Emergency Appeal.

I still hope the Llangollen Railway lot still succeeds in successfully fundraising and forever keep well preserved and running too.

  2. I would like to compliment (with my full support) the Lovely and Well-Restored Llangollen Railway… Wishing them Good Luck on this Latest ”Eagerly-Must-Succeed” Appeal.

My heart once again goes out to this ”Eagerly-Must-Visit” Welsh Heritage Railway and it’s volunteering lot on going through such unexpectedly difficult times.

I do hope they successfully succeed too.
