The P2 Steam Locomotive Company have released an update on the construction of their new-build London and North Eastern Railway P2 Class No.2007 “Prince of Wales” at Darlington Locomotive Works.
Cylinder Computed Aided Design (CAD) Drawings
David Elliott has made great progress recently in producing the CAD drawings for the cylinder block on 2007, which is now almost complete.
Attention has therefore been turned to the CAD drawing showing the weld lines for the block, with current work on the inside exhaust passage welds.
The order of production also needs to be worked out to ensure all welds can be completed. On completion, the cylinder block will weigh roughly six tons.
Cylinder Drain Cock Gear
Other members of the team have been busy building components for cylinder drain cock gear. The drain cocks ensure the water that builds up in the cylinders is ejected to avoid cylinder damage, which is operated by the footplate crew in the cab.
Therefore, rods and linkages run from the cylinders all the way to the fireman’s side of the cab. So far, the majority of the parts needed have been manufactured. Locating a route for the rods to run within the frame is another task to the team are working on.
Fund Raising
Just 15 more members are needed for The Motion Club to fully fund the production of the Motion for “Prince of Wales”. By becoming a member, you donate £1000, either in the whole amount or monthly standing order, to fund part of the cost of producing the motion for 2007.
