The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway (RHDR), based in Kent, has announced that over £60,000 has been donated towards the overhaul costs of steam locomotive No.11 “Black Prince” built by Krupp of Essen.

With thanks to the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway Association who have provided a grant of £60,000 for No.11’s overhaul, the RHDR estimate that it covers roughly half of the costs, with another £12,000 due to be donated by members.

Therefore they are asking for donations to help fully fund the overhaul, which is being carried out at John Fowler Engineering based in Cumbria.

What did the officials say?

Simon Foulkes, Chairman of Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway Association, said

“This support also helps the Railway cope with the current difficult situation. We could, it seems to me, do even more. If we could raise another £40,000, we could pretty well cover all the costs and assist with the Railway’s financial flexibility at the same time. Please consider making a donation to the special projects fund, earmarking it for Black Prince, through this link.”

  1. I worked on the refurbishment of this engine around 1981 at TMA ENGINEERING in Lichfield staffs. It came from the Romney , hythe &dimchurch railway and when we completed it was loaned to the ravensglass& Eskdale railway. Really enjoyed working on it
