The Bulleid Society has released an update on the overhauls of both Southern Railway West Country / Battle of Britain Class locomotives based at the .

21C123 “Blackmoor Vale”

Following the engine being moved undercover in the Maintenance Shed at Sheffield Park, all of the backhead fittings (gauges, valves etc. located in the cab) have been removed and stored.

Next, the boiler will have its flue, small and superheater elements removed and cladding stripped from the boiler.

This will allow the boiler to be lifted and be shipped to the South Devon Railway Engineering where the new firebox can be fitted. This is fantastic news and a significant milestone in the overhaul of “Blackmoor Vale”.

Disassembly of “Sir Archibald Sinclair” is still in process, with the left-hand side piston rear gland recently being removed. Work also continues on the boiler, with stays being fitted.
