Stadler has announced that it has won the tender issued by Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe for the delivery of 1,500 cars for use on the underground in Berlin.
The framework agreement, worth around 3 billion euros (around £2.7bn) will also cover the supply of spare parts for the next 32 years.
One of the unsuccessful bidders had initiated a review procedure, but the request has been rejected by the Berlin Court of Appeal.
The framework agreement includes a fixed minimum order quantity of 606 cars. Stadler will supply 376 cars for two- to four-car vehicle units from 2022 onwards.
The energy-efficient vehicles with noise reduction have been optimised in various ways.
What did the officials say?
Jure Mikolčić, CEO of Stadler in Germany, said:
“We are delighted that BVG has decided to continue its successful cooperation with our company. We are very proud to have won one of the largest delivery contracts ever awarded in Europe and to be able to complete the order in Berlin for Berlin. We have decided to bring forward our planned investments in the Stadler location in the German capital in order to create an optimal basis for the implementation of this major project”,

Andrew, there is a hurdle to your wild ideas it’s called money and the lack of it.
Thank you Richard.
Stadler could build & manufacture new tube stocks for the London Underground Bakerloo Line, Central Line and Waterloo & City Line and to replace the 1973 Stock and 1992 Stock.
And Stadler to continue with manufacturing new trains including Transport for Wales Class 231 and Class 756 Flirt, Class 777 Merseyrail Metro and Greater Anglia Class 745 and Class 755 Flirt. And new rolling stocks for Glasgow Subway and Tyne and Wear Metro.
And they could also manufacture new trains to run on DC 750v 3rd Rail and Battery power to be used for the Southern’s Uckfield Line and Marshlink Line and to replace the Class 455 on the South London suburban routes and Class 313 on the East Coastway Line and West Coastway Line services.
