Nexus has said that Metro passengers can continue using the during the Coronavirus outbreak.

Extra cleaners have been hired in to make sure trains and stations are cleaned and continuously disinfected.

New cleaning regimes were introduced at the start of March.

At the time of writing, there are no advised changes to Metro operations; if services are affected in future because employees are unable to come to work, will release another update.

What did the officials say?

Huw Lewis, Customer Services Director at Nexus, said:

“Passengers can continue to use Metro as normal if they need to get around Tyne and Wear.

“We are following the advice issued by Public Health England, and we have taken on extra cleaners and increased cleaning of key points around Metro to help reduce the spread of coronavirus.”
