Dozens as cancellations announced as Coronavirus halts Northern trains

Northern has announced a range of cancellations for Friday 20th March 2020 as a result of Coronavirus (Covid-19).

Rail passengers are being warned to check before travelling.

Rail replacement services may run on some of the routes.

Hull Trains, TransPennine Express, Transport for London and Merseyrail have all announced changes to services as a result of the pandemic.

The routes impacted include:

  • Liverpool – Blackpool
  • Blackpool – Manchester Airport
  • Liverpool – Manchester Airport
  • Manchester Victoria – Kirkby
  • Preston – Manchester Victoria
  • Morecambe – Lancaster
  • Some cancellations will take place on services from Manchester Piccadilly to the following destinations:
    • Hadfield
    • Buxton
    • Stoke
    • Rose Hill
  • Leeds to Harrogate FAST services
  • Leeds to Nottingham services
  • Leeds to Manchester Victoria (this route will be fully or partly still served by Leeds to Chester, Leeds to Wigan via Dewsbury/Brighouse, Hull to Halifax and York to Blackpool North services)
  • Sheffield to Gainsborough Central
  • Sheffield to Doncasters services at XX.25 mins past the hour
  • Darlington to Saltburn
  • Newcastle to Carlisle FAST services
  • Hull to Bridlington (to be served by Scarborough services instead)
  • Leeds to Lancaster
  • Leeds to Knaresborough XX.59 services (leaving the XX.29 Leeds to York and LNER Harrogate services)
  • Leeds to Sheffield FAST services
  • Leeds to Lincoln services to run between Sheffield and Lincoln only
  • Huddersfield to Castleford service reduced to two hourly
  • Huddersfield to Bradford Interchange reduced to two hourly
  • Doncaster to Scunthorpe reduced to two hourly
  • Newcastle to Morpeth
  • First and last services of the day withdrawn on the Whitby branch

  1. A new era for the government owned Northern Trains franchise to take responsibility for because of the Coronavirus outbreak since they took over from Arriva North Rail few weeks ago.
